Unit 3.0 • B1 Level

«Hey guys! Welcome back to Tyndale Academy. Think about this: everything around you has a name. From the coffee in your cup to the happiness you feel today. Naming things is how we organize our world, but not all names are created equal. Today, we are going to dive deep into the Types of Nouns so you can express yourself with precision and style. Let’s get started!»

The Grammar Breakdown

In English, nouns are much more than just «people, places, or things.» We categorize them to understand how they behave in a sentence.

Noun Type Definition Examples
Common vs. Proper General things vs. specific names (Capitalized). city / London, teacher / Mr. Smith
Concrete vs. Abstract Physical objects vs. ideas/emotions. phone, dog / love, freedom
Count vs. Non-count Things you can count vs. mass/liquids. apple, car / water, advice
Collective A group acting as a single unit. team, family, audience

⚠️ The B1 Challenge: Non-Count Nouns

At this level, you must remember that some nouns like information, equipment, and furniture are ALWAYS singular. You cannot say «informations.»
